The wife of gladiator Gracchus urges him to rebel against Crassius and his outright thievery of the people's money. Gracchus kills Crassius, then flees with Ledra to her uncle's town where they will be safe. Unknown to anyone, on August 24, 79 A.D., that town, Pompeii, was to be destroyed by an eruption of a volcano.
