Carole just wants to get away and, in her grief, doesn't pay attention to the police loudspeakers that the sea wall may break and everyone should evacuate. At the train station, she sees Mark getting off the train and panics. Fleeing blindly, she goes into the most dangerous part of the Fens. She hears Benny barking, but then sees Mark is with him. Again, she runs, but faints and falls into the water. Mark picks her up and takes her to a barn where he apologizes for his plan to humiliate her and claims that he loves her.
