Shirley had broken up with Jim months earlier when they had quarreled about her sharing a flat with Kay. Shirley learned later that Jim had been right about Kay being a trouble-maker. Now on her birthday, Jim is leaving town. She receives a note from Jim that had been delivered to the wrong house by mistake, asking her to meet him the previous evening. Shirley runs to the train station to explain, only to see Jim's train pulling out.
