Norman threatens to shoot Cartier, but a phone call revealing that Fleur's taken an overdose of sleeping pills stops him. He takes Tessa to Fleur's apartment and Tessa stays with her while Norman goes to straighten things out with the police. From Fleur, Tessa learns that the first woman Norman had ever loved had drowned and Cartier was responsible. Later that night, Tessa and Norman learn that Fleur has disappeared and fear what Cartier might have done to her.
