Marvel Tales #140
"Man Without Fear" is a standout tale from Marvel Tales #140, a 1955 comic with a cover by Carl Burgos, featuring a hauntingly simple premise: a commuter train vanishes into a tunnel and emerges in a surreal, alien world. Written by Carl Wessler and illustrated by Mort Lawrence, the story unfolds with quiet wonder as passengers and crew encounter kind, curious beings who share their own strange realities. The journey ends with a haunting twist—only the engineer returns to Earth, his tale met with disbelief, while the rest remain behind in a world they’ve come to cherish.

A commuter train enters a tunnel and disappears. The crew and passengers find themselves on a world inhabited by strange and friendly creatures. The humans come to admire this new world as the creatures come to admire the different conditions they are told of Earth. Eventually, the train is ready to return to its original destination. The engineer recounts his story to a group of people who are skeptical until the passengers disembark, and we see only alien creatures, as all the people, save for the engineer, stayed behind in the strange new world.
