Milestone Compendium #1
In "The Man in the Machine, Chapter One: Angry Black Man," Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan launch a powerful new chapter in the Milestone Compendium series, delivering a gripping, character-driven story that redefines vengeance. When Hardware confronts Alva after months of planning, he’s faced with a choice: kill or expose. Instead of ending the threat with violence, he turns Alva’s own files against him, setting a chilling, long-term game in motion. The story’s raw intensity is matched by Denys Cowan’s dynamic artwork and Steve Haynie’s sharp lettering, making this a standout entry in the Milestone legacy.

After spending some time refining his plan to kill Alva, Hardware is convinced by Barraki to find a different way to get his revenge instead of more killing. So, when Hardware puts his plan in motion and fights his way to Alva's office, he becomes enraged when Alva tries to hire him as a strong-arm agent. Nevertheless, Hardware doesn't kill Alva. Instead, he reveals that he's gone through Alva's files and will use them in the coming months to dismantle Alva's organization and ruin him. Then, when Alva is broken and penniless, then Hardware will kill him.
