Milton Caniff's Steve Canyon #1951
In "Operation Foo Ling [Chapter One]," Steve Canyon takes on a covert assignment guarding a professor's top-secret project, only to find himself entangled in a web of deception when the professor’s secretary—widow of a fallen comrade—reveals a past that complicates his growing romance with Summer. As tensions rise and a mysterious message from a long-lost husband throws everything into doubt, Steve vanishes on a new mission, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. Milt Caniff’s masterful storytelling and art bring this Cold War-era espionage tale to life, with the cover by Caniff himself capturing the intrigue of a world where loyalty is tested and every shadow might hide a spy.

When Steve is assigned to an R.O.T.C. position in order to safeguard a professor's secret project, the professor's secretary turns out to be the widow of an old comrade. Her roommate turns out to be a Communist spy whom Steve exposes. Steve and Summer plan to marry, but on the eve of the wedding a message arrives in the name of the long-lost husband. Steve betakes himself away, incommunicado on another secret mission, too late to learn that the message is from the late comrade's estranged but identically-named father.
