Ms. Victory Special #1
Ms. Victory Special #1 (1985) holds a firm place in Copper Age history as the first full-length solo comic book dedicated entirely to Ms. Victory — a character whose roots stretch back to Captain Fearless #1 (August 1941), making her one of the earliest costumed superheroines in American comics. By giving Joan Wayne her own book-length showcase, AC Comics signaled the commercial and creative ambitions of its nascent Femforce universe, demonstrating that a Golden Age revival could sustain a standalone narrative rather than just ensemble appearances. The issue also serves as an early character study of Joan's domestic world — her daughter Jennifer Burke, grandson Jason Burke, and government liaison Captain Tom Kelly — establishing the extended family and support network that would define Ms. Victory's storytelling texture for decades. Crucially, it marks the published debut of artist Cynthia Martin, whose subsequent run on Marvel's Star Wars series made her one of the more discussed women artists working in mainstream American comics during the 1980s.

AC Comics (originally Paragon Publications, then Americomics) was founded and run by Bill Black, who built the line around Golden Age revivals and 'good girl art' sensibilities targeting the then-new direct-sales comic shop market. The success of the black-and-white Femforce Special (Fall 1984) as a one-shot demonstrated enough reader appetite for AC's all-female superhero concept that spin-off solo specials followed in tandem with the launch of the ongoing Femforce color title in 1985. The 'Ms. Victory at Sea' story was written by Phil White and pencilled by Cynthia Martin — who was at that point just breaking into professional comics — with inks by Palle Jensen and a cover by Mark Heike and Bill Black, running 32 pages in full color.
