Margie and her father, Vern, are dismayed when Uncle Jake’s surprise gift arrives: a large, energetic puppy that quickly wreaks havoc around the house. Though Vern insists the dog must be sent back, Margie is smitten, convinced the pup is too sweet to part with.

Margie, determined to become a big star, quits her dream job as a waitress after accidentally serving spaghetti to a man she believes is a Hollywood producer—only to learn he’s actually a nut and bolt manufacturer. Her plan to be discovered by a big producer goes hilariously awry when she misinterprets the restaurant’s quirky menu and her own role in the chaos.

Margie is frustrated when her dog Bowser crosses a line by taking her car keys, pushing their friendship to its limit—especially after Bowser’s string of increasingly outrageous (and impressive) feats. Though she’s tolerant of his antics, from beating her at tennis to swimming the channel, she draws the line at driving her car.

Margie and her father Vern arrive at a hunting lodge for their trip, where Margie insists on bringing all the comforts of home, even wearing a bikini. After a series of mishaps—including Margie accidentally catching the limit of fish and stopping Vern from shooting an elk—she’s sent back to the camp to cook supper, only to find herself ambushed by the guide, Pierre.
