My Own Romance #34
In "Desertion," Joan finds herself caught between her mother’s watchful eye and her growing desire for independence, leading to a quiet but telling shift in her approach to romance. After a series of strained encounters, she begins dating Raymond—this time without bringing him home—only to discover her mother already knows and approves. Written and illustrated by Christopher Rule, with lettering by Joe Letterese, this 1953 story captures a tender moment of personal change, all framed by Al Hartley’s cover pencils and Bill Everett’s inks.

She meets Raymond at the Church Bazaar and immediately falls in love. Date after date she won't bring him home until one day she is late and Raymond has gone to her house. She then finds out Raymond had met her mother at the Bazaar and Mom is fine with him.
