“The Snake!”

In "The Snake!", a cunning criminal in Chile manipulates the weatherman into broadcasting a false tidal wave warning, hoping to loot the evacuated town—only to find himself caught in a real disaster he never saw coming. Martin Rosenthall’s stark, expressive art brings the tension to life, while Harry Anderson’s cover captures the moment of dread with chilling precision. A 10-cent tale from 1954 that blends suspense and irony in a story where fate takes a darker turn than the criminal intended.

A thug in Chile gets the idea of forcing the weather man to tell the people there is a tidal wave incoming so that he may plunder their homes when they seek shelter further inland. He carries out his plan but, unknown to him, there actually is a tidal wave incoming and it drowns him and his gang.
