In "It Walks by Night!", a curious alien observer attends a human costume party, only to be baffled by the rules of disguise—until he starts copying everyone else’s outfits, from the servant to the guests, each time returning with a new look. Written and illustrated by Tom Scheuer, this eerie 1955 tale from Mystery Tales #35 explores the absurdity of identity through a creature who learns that observation doesn’t require disguise. The cover, by Carl Burgos, captures the unsettling mood of the night’s strange happenings.
