“La quête de Submariner”

In "La quête de Submariner," a terrified space pilot crash-lands on a strange Earth-like world that mimics 15th-century Spain, where a lone sailor dares to prove the planet is round. Hoping to escape his past and seize glory, he swaps places with the navigator and sets sail—only to discover the planet’s true shape is far from what he expected. Steve Ditko handles both pencils and inks, bringing his signature surreal detail to the story, while Stan Goldberg’s colors add depth to the alternate world. The cover, by George Tuska and Vince Colletta, captures the moment of deception with a dramatic, windswept scene.

A cowardly space pilot flees a battle until his spaceship runs out of power and he crashes into a bog on an Earth-like planet. He finds himself in a place similar to 15th-century Spain, complete with a sailor who is attempting to prove the planet round with a voyage around the globe. The space pilot thinks this is a sure bet to gain fame and fortune so he arranges to exchange places with the sailor and head out to sea. Unfortunately for him, the planet he has crash landed upon does indeed turn out to be flat.
