"Operation Clean Sea" follows Admiral James F. McClelland and his task force as they devise a plan to neutralize Chinese Communist mines threatening Allied shipping at a secret port in Korea designated X-2. When Navy Intelligence reports that six enemy submarines have deployed mines in the area, the Admiral assembles experts to determine the best method for removing them without alerting the enemy. The operation culminates in a naval battle where carrier-based planes attack the German warship Bismarck, with one torpedo scoring a hit that damages the vessel; the damaged Bismarck is ultimately sunk by the cruiser Dorsetshire, with the final blow delivered beneath the waves as she capsizes and slips beneath the ocean.
