Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: X-Men 2005 #[nn]
Published in November 2005, this one-shot arrived at a pivotal moment for the X-Men franchise — right after the post-Grant Morrison 'Reload' era reshuffled the roster and reintroduced characters who had spent years off the board. By documenting more than 25 characters at that precise juncture, including the freshly resurrected Colossus and Psylocke, it serves as an authoritative snapshot of the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe in transition. The volume also contains some of the earliest official handbook profiles for several Morrison-era creations — Danger, Fantomex, Ord, Kid Omega, and the Stepford Cuckoos — giving them their first encyclopedic write-ups and cementing their canonical standing. As the second X-Men-dedicated OHOTMU one-shot in as many years, it demonstrated Marvel's commitment to keeping reference material current with a rapidly evolving franchise.

The issue is part of the ambitious 2004–2005 OHOTMU themed one-shot program in which Marvel published character-family handbooks at a pace of roughly one per month, beginning with the X-Men 2004 volume and expanding across major Marvel families. The writing team — Eric J. Moreels, Ronald Byrd, Marc-Oliver Frisch, and Stuart Vandal — was drawn from the core stable of handbook specialists who worked across multiple volumes in this era, with Jennifer Grunwald serving as editor and Joe Quesada as editor-in-chief. The cover was produced by artist Mike Deodato Jr. with digital coloring by Morry Hollowell, the same pairing used on other 2005 handbook covers in the line.
