Orion #19

Dec 2001 · DC · 2.50 USD; 4.25 CAD
“Laugh, and the World Laughs with You!”

In "Laugh, and the World Laughs with You!", Orion staggers back to Earth, battered and broken, only to be sheltered by a lone homeless drifter. Meanwhile, Slig—the leader of the Deep Six—breaks free, transforms his face into a grotesque homage to the Joker, and unleashes a tide of Joker-fish upon the Pacific, leading an army of sea monsters toward land. Written and illustrated by Walter Simonson, with cover art by Simonson, this 2001 issue blends surreal menace with dark humor, as the Joker himself pauses, uncertain if his twisted influence has gone too far.

Orion returns to Earth in a weakened state, and a homeless drifter hides him. Slig, leader of the Deep Six, escapes from captivity, and having heard of the Joker's latest plot, alters his own face to resemble the Joker's as a tribute and also changes countless fish into Joker fish. As Slig then leads an army of sea monsters across the Pacific Ocean, the Joker briefly wonders whether his plot has gone too far.
