When a new superintendent arrives at Crawford Corners High School to restore order, he quickly finds himself overwhelmed by chaos—students hurling objects, teachers fleeing, and even the gymnasium in disarray. As he struggles to assert control, the students’ antics take a surprising turn when they challenge him to a game of football, leading to a series of escalating mishaps.

Smiley Burnette, a perpetually hungry and endlessly energetic man, recounts his wildly varied career—from musician and radio star to Hollywood actor and cowboy hero—always driven by a cheerful spirit and a knack for making friends. Along the way, he lands a series of odd jobs, each more absurd than the last, all while being interviewed by a curious student reporter. The story ends with Smiley sharing his recipe for success, which involves hard work, music, and kindness.

Sandy and Spiderlegs accidentally cause chaos at a restaurant while dancing, leading to a mock courtroom trial where the judge ultimately dismisses the case after a musical performance. The story follows their misadventures as they try to explain their antics, only to be mistaken for criminals due to the loud, chaotic energy of their dance.

Sidney Short is a self-absorbed young man who constantly boasts about his charm and looks, convinced he's the center of attention wherever he goes. He tries to impress others with his exaggerated confidence, whether on the tennis court, at the Ritz Hotel, or in group photos—only to be unintentionally humiliated by his own vanity. Despite his delusions, he remains oblivious to how he comes across, especially when his oversized nose dominates every picture.

Sandy is plagued by persistent hiccups, prompting his friend Spiderlegs to try increasingly wild amusement park rides in a desperate attempt to scare them away. As the boys endure a series of increasingly chaotic and dangerous thrills, their antics only seem to worsen the hiccups—until a final, unexpected trick might just do the trick.
