Pedro, a young tamale vendor, takes on various jobs to earn money, including breaking in a wild horse for a rancher named Gonzales and later working as a popcorn salesman. When a customer asks for baseballs labeled "bas' ball," Pedro agrees to trade his tamale wagon and horse for what he believes are baseballs covered in horse hair. Pedro then encounters Señorita, an attractive woman, and attempts to impress her by presenting the items as gifts, leading to comedic misunderstandings. The story concludes with Pedro receiving a slap from Señorita after she discovers his deceptions, and he bids her farewell with characteristic good humor.
