Personal Love #5
In "The Lady Knows Best," Bill Everett’s art brings to life the emotional tensions of Babs, a young woman caught between her father’s harsh judgment and the shadow of her mother’s rumored past. When a night at a gambling club takes a tragic turn, Babs finds unexpected guidance in Laura—a mysterious woman with a secret tied to her own family. With Everett handling both pencils and inks, this 1950 issue captures a poignant moment of revelation and reconciliation, where love and truth slowly unravel long-held misunderstandings.

Babs is raised by her strict father Fred, who says her mother ran off with another man. Babs dates Monty although he thinks she’s “easy” because of her mother’s reputation. They’re in a gambling club when it’s raided and Babs is saved by Laura and Chris, a university student who parks cars there. Chris and Babs fall in love and she leaves home when her father reproves her. Babs goes back to the club with Monty and he accidentally shoots himself. Laura takes the blame, telling Babs she is her mother. Babs reunites her mother and father and will marry Chris herself.
