In a future where the planet Volta has conquered Earth, Hunt Bowman receives a desperate message from Professor Raymond Huxley Dunn, a scientist held captive by his own creations—the X-Adapts, mute hybrid creatures born from his pre-invasion experiments. Racing to locate the Professor with the help of a survivor named Lyssa, Hunt must navigate treacherous encounters with both the X-Adapts and Volta patrols, all while uncovering the terrible truth of what Dunn has become in his captors' hands. The fate of Earth's remaining survivors may hinge on rescuing the one man who might have the knowledge to resist the invaders—if Hunt can stay alive long enough to reach him.
