On the run from the police, Liddy finds a door suddenly opens and she is mistaken for an agency girl scheduled to work as a maid for a famous writer. When the evening is completed, the police are still in the area so she sneaks back in to get something to eat and is caught. She makes up a story about a bad home life and the writer lets her stay the night. She slips out the next morning and assumes she won't see him again, but the writer is a new client of her father's and he shows up at her house for dinner.
