Powerless #1
"Powerless [Part 1]" kicks off a striking new series from Matt Cherniss and Peter Johnson, with Michael Gaydos handling art and inks, and Lee Loughridge’s colors grounding the story in a world where superheroes are myth and reality feels thin. William Watts, recently awakened from a coma haunted by visions of costumed heroes, finds himself drawn into a case involving a disfigured Peter Parker, a blind attorney named Matt Murdock, and the shadow of the Kingpin—only to be hunted by a masked assailant with bionic claws. Alex Maleev’s cover captures the tension perfectly, setting the tone for a story where power isn’t just about strength, but about who holds the truth.

William Watts wakes up from a coma where he has been dreaming of a world peopled by costumed superheroes only to find the everyday world of his life to be a little mundane. He has a first session with Peter Parker, a worker for Stark Industries, whose arm has been horribly disfigured by a spider bite. He is asked to assist in a court case where blind attorney Matt Murdock is defending Frank Castle against charges of murder, but when Watts finds that the Kingpin is involved, he refuses to be an expert witness. Watts is accosted by a killer sporting bionic claws attached to his wrists.
