The main story features "Dusty" Ballew and his partner Gumption Jones, "The Galloping Ghost of the Wild West," confronting a gang of rustlers led by the criminal "Crazy Ben" who has stolen mavericks and gold. When Dusty and Gumption attempt to stop the thieves, a shootout ensues in which the outlaw Slenk kills Noiseless, then flees with the stolen gold, only to become trapped in quicksand where he drowns. The story concludes with Dusty and Gumption returning safely to the Allen farm in Texas with a valuable horse and Senor Allen's gold recovered. A secondary story, "Rocky Dawn and Windy Smith," depicts a lynching scene in which Rocky Dawn intervenes to save an innocent boy from being hanged by frontier vigilantes.
