Promethea #1
"The Radiant Heavenly City" launches Alan Moore’s visionary series *Promethea* with a striking dual narrative: in 411 A.D., a dying magician sends his daughter into the desert, where she is taken by Thoth-Hermes to grow up in the Immateria, the realm of the collective unconscious. In present-day New York, student Sophie Bangs becomes entangled in the mythos of Promethea—appearing across poems, comics, and pulp tales—when a visit to the widow of the last comic writer triggers a transformation she doesn’t understand. J. H. Williams III’s breathtaking art, rendered in collaboration with Mick Gray and Digital Chameleon, brings the dreamlike Immateria to life, while Todd Klein’s lettering adds precision to the story’s unfolding mystery. The cover by J. H. Williams III captures the essence of this otherworldly beginning.

In Alexandria in 411 A.D., a magician sends his daughter Promethea into the desert before he is mobbed and killed. Promethea is adopted by Thoth-Hermes, who take her to live and grow up in the Immateria (the realm of the collective unconscious). In present-day New York, university student Sophie Bangs becomes interested in the character of Promethea, who appears in poems, comic strips, pulp novels, and comic books. She visits the widow of the last writer of the Promethea comic, and unwittingly sets off a chain of events that will lead to her becoming the next incarnation of Promethea.
