Promethea #2
In "Rocks and Hard Places," Sophie's journey through the Immateria deepens as she encounters Bill and learns the significance of the Pentacles, while in the waking world, a gathering of powerful figures—her mother, the mayor, the Painted Doll, Benny Solomon, and the Goetia—converge at a hospital where Sophie lies unconscious. Just as Marv of the Five Swell Guys arrives, Bill returns her to her body, moments before the Painted Doll and the Goetia launch their separate attacks. Written by Alan Moore and illustrated with breathtaking detail by J. H. Williams III, with coloring by Jeromy Cox and José Villarrubia, and lettered by Todd Klein, this issue’s cover by J. H. Williams III captures the surreal tension of Sophie’s dual reality.

Sophie continues her education and her journey through the Immateria. She meets Bill, and learns of his life and of the meaning of Pentacles. In the material world, Sophie's mom, the mayor of New York, the Painted Doll, and Benny Solomon and the Goetia all converge on the hospital where Sophie lies unconscious, as does Marv of the Five Swell Guys. Bill returns Sophie to her body and consciousness just as the Painted Doll and the Goetia begin separate assaults on the hospital.
