In "A New Life!", the teens of Psi-Force face a dangerous test when Eugene guides them through training and reveals the past of their mentor Emmett—particularly his bond with childhood friend Derek Shiningstar, whose legacy now threatens them. With an agent of Shiningstar’s past attempting to kill them in a collapsing cave, the group barely escapes, realizing their presence on the reservation may now put the Proudstars in danger. Determined to protect their home, the teens make the difficult choice to return to San Francisco. Written by Danny Fingeroth and illustrated by Bob Hall, with inks by Al Williamson and colors by Bob Sharen and George Roussos, the issue’s cover by Mark Texeira captures the tension of their escape.

Eugene helps train the teens with their powers and tells them about Emmett's past, particularly their childhood friend, Derek Shiningstar, with whom Emmett joined the C.I.A. An agent of Shiningstar's attempts to kill the teens in a cave-in, but the group manages to escape. Knowing more people may come to the reservation after them, and endanger the safety of the Proudstars, the teens decide to return to San Francisco.
