Quiproquo #26
In "Le déserteur de mon coeur," Carole—lived in luxury but adrift in purpose—finds herself unexpectedly drawn to a mechanic at a fair, sparking a quiet rebellion against her gilded routine. As she navigates a secret connection that threatens her carefully constructed world, the lines between duty and desire blur. A poignant, character-driven story from 1969, this issue captures a moment of quiet transformation, with typeset lettering lending a distinct, period-accurate tone.

Carole leads a life of privilege. She has a job at Kane Motors, but she is essentially an ornament because she has no skills. Her circle of socialites includes the son of owner of Kane Motors, who she knows is planning to propose to her. One night when her usual crowd visits the fair, she volunteers to man an archery booth when the owner is called away on an emergency. While manning the booth, she meets a mechanic and is drawn to him. She starts leading a double life, ashamed to confess her social status to Robert and afraid of her mother's reaction if she finds out about him.
