Twenty years have passes since Sonja died battling Kulan Gath. Now, in a new incarnation, she is a young married woman whose brother-in-law rules the land. When the husbands are away questing for the Blood Destiny, Sonja holds an audience with Peroth of the Matur who threatens to take their lands. Daniel returns and takes Sonja on a ride in his ship but they are attacked by pirates. Meanwhile Osin takes blood from the Goddess Scathach and starts his quest to find Sonja.
