Red Sonja #37
In Red Sonja #37, Sonja confronts the aftermath of a brutal pirate raid on the village of Dorn, forced to bury the dead as part of her training—only to discover her sister’s husband among the corpses, while Verona and her child remain missing. Meanwhile, in the east, Lucan Matur assumes leadership of his clan, unaware that Verona has been reunited with him, her secret lover and the true father of her child, whose arrival was orchestrated by Lucan himself through the very pirates who attacked Dorn. Written by Brian Reed and illustrated by Walter Geovani, with colors by Vinicius Andrade and letters by Simon Bowland, the issue’s cover by Mel Rubi captures the grim weight of the moment.

As part of her training, Osin has Sonja bury all the victims in the village of Dorn who had been slain by pirates. Among the many bodies, Sonja finds the bodies of her sister's husband, but not of Verona or Verona's baby. Meanwhile, to the east Lucan Matur takes over as head of the Matur clan from his dead father. There, Verona is reunited with Lucan, her secret lover, and the real father of her child. Lucan had surreptitiously employed the pirates to attack Dorn so the massacre would not be blamed on him.
