Reptisaurus Special Edition #1
In the 1963 Charlton Special Edition #1, "Idol of the Aztec's," Reptisaurus and his mate soar over Central America, drawing the attention of the hidden Nahuatl tribe who mistake the reptilian giant for their ancient god Quetzalcoatl. When the tribe prepares a human sacrifice in his honor, Reptisaurus responds with force, toppling their temple and sending them fleeing back into the earth—before returning to his mate. Written by Joe Gill and illustrated by Bill Montes with inks by Ernie Bache, the cover by Bill Montes and Ernie Bache captures the mythic clash with striking detail.

Reptisaurus and his mate fly towards Central America. A remnant tribe of the Aztecs called the Nahuatl have been living underground for centuries. They see Reptisaurus and thinks it's their deity Quetzalcoatl (mistakenly referred to as Quetzatacl). They believe it is a sign that will allow their Aztec Empire to be reborn. They offer an American woman they captured as a human sacrifice, but Reptisaurus isn't interested and destroys their temple causing them to flee back underground. Reptisaurus then returns to his slumbering mate.
