“Blood in the Sky”

"Blood in the Sky" delivers a pulse-pounding escalation in *Return to Voodoo Island* #2, where John Blackburn’s singular vision takes full control—writing, drawing, inking, and lettering every page with a raw, relentless intensity. As The Black Widow’s dark ritual turns deadly, Coley’s voodoo power erupts in a moment that flips the tide, leaving his captors reeling and a fragile alliance forming between him and one of his former tormentors. With Harry watching closely and Kit torn between love and leaving, the stakes rise not in violence, but in the quiet, unbearable weight of what Coley is forced to confront—both in the shadows and in the hearts of those around him. The cover by Blackburn captures the moment’s feverish tension, a stark, haunting image of power and surrender.

In front of her followers, The Black Widow has her way with Coley, intending to kill him when she's finished. But Coley's voodoo powers come into play, and turn the tables -- fatally. After most of her followers have fled, one of his kidnappers frees Coley rather than killing him and the two of them wind up going at it while Lon & Darryl watch. Later, Harry's very aware of how much killing anybody upsets Coley. But Coley finds that Kit intends to leave him, feeling she can't handle his lifestyle anymore. He begs her to stick around just long enough to see a voodoo ritual.
