As the character of Sherlock Holmes has entered public domain, Rick decides that it's finally time for he and Morty to do a full-on, no royalties owed, Holmes adventure. Costuming themselves appropriately, Rick visits an alien planet where there is a locked-room murder mystery to solve under the nose of a sassy inspector of Spaceland Yard. However, more important to Morty than unsolvable space murders, period costumes, and Rick lording his intelligence over sassy space-police inspectors, is that this is the night before his school’s finals week – and he must get in some needed study and sleep.
