Rocket Raccoon #4
The finale of Marvel's four-issue limited series arrives in style, with cover art by Mike Mignola and Al Gordon delivering a gloriously strange tableau: Rocket Raccoon rides a golden mechanical horse at full gallop, sword raised, while a snake-wielding figure swoops in from above on a dark bird and a cast of peculiar small creatures tumbles through the chaos around them. It's a fittingly wild and imaginative send-off for Bill Mantlo's offbeat corner of the Marvel universe, rendered with Mignola's already distinctive eye for dynamic, slightly otherworldly imagery. If you've been following "The Age of Enlightenment," this 1985 closer looks like it goes out swinging.
