The main story "Rustler's Brand" follows Rocky Lane as he investigates cattle rustling in the county, discovering that every rancher is losing beef and that a mysterious "Double X Track Brand" is appearing on stolen animals. Rocky encounters Lodge, the Two X Track owner, to question how he came to possess that particular brand. In a separate story titled "Inside Job," a bank safe containing dynamite explodes while Rocky Lane, the town's roving marshal, is sleeping in the marshal's office, and he must investigate who is responsible. A third tale involves Rocky Lane meeting with a man named Mr. Blake about mining concerns; Blake reveals he has a mine full of raw gold and requests Rocky's assistance, but complications arise when Blake's business partner Foyen and another character named Nugget Jones become involved in a scheme to steal gold from the mine.
