After her father’s death, Allison has to drop out of college because her father owed money to Mr. Dodson. Allison is compelled to work as the Dodson’s maid to pay the debt. Dodson’s son David and Allison are in love. They discover Mr. Dodson was paid in full by Allison’s father but failed to send a receipt, and has been using the money to pay his daughter Susan’s gambling debts. David and Allison walk out, leaving his father and sister behind.
