“When He Kisses Me...”

In "When He Kisses Me...", Norman Lee's striking art brings to life a tense, fever-dream tale set during the plague, where Gareth manipulates fear and medicine to force Julia into marriage. With the city ablaze and secrets unraveling, Mark’s desperate attempt to rescue Julia leads to a chilling confrontation in a church now trapped by fire. The haunting visuals and mounting dread are all rendered in Lee’s unmistakable style—pencils and inks both by the artist—making this a standout issue in the series.

During the time of the plague, Gareth uses his knowledge of drugs to make Julia's mother ill. He claims there is an infallible remedy, but Julia must agree to marry him. She reluctantly agrees, but shortly after the wedding Mark confronts them. He has had an honest doctor examine Julia's mother and knows he does not have the plague. Mark tries to take Julia away with him, but Gareth locks them both in the church and they are soon engulfed in flames as a fire burns through the city.
