Cassie and Cisco arrive in Marbleton where they meet with Agent Melchoir in order to find someone in authority to deal with the hidden monsters in Empyrean. Agent Melchoir is on edge because of a state visit from the ambassador to the People's Republic of Rodina, Vasily Borodin, who turns out to be a monster working for the Adversary. Cassie's attempt to expose Ambassador Borodin during his state speech goes horribly wrong and she and Cisco are captured by Borodin and taken to Rodina.
