Roxy #14 May 1960 [114]
In "She Was His New Recruit," Ruby, a shopkeeper with a knack for small-town secrets, stumbles into a mystery when a record she sells to her upstairs neighbor goes missing—only to hear it playing all night long. When she confronts the silence of his empty flat, she breaks the record in frustration, unaware that her impulsive act sets off a chain of events tied to Tam’s hidden experiments. Written by W. Tyrer and illustrated with striking detail by Guido Buzzelli, this 1960 tale blends quiet tension with a touch of the uncanny, all wrapped in a cover by Guido Buzzelli.

Ruby sells her upstairs neighbor a record in the shop where she works and hears it playing all night. She thinks he likes the record, but when she goes upstairs she finds he isn't there. Angry, she breaks the record. But Tam finds her and asks her out. Trying to cover for breaking his record, she goes into his room and replaces the broken one with her own copy. What she doesn't know is that Tam had painted the original record with a formula that keeps the record from wearing out. But when he played the (replaced) record for a customer, it sounded awful because of the scratches.
