Roxy #8 July 1961 [174]
In "Absent Love," Jo—used to the grease and grit of her father’s garage—steps into a new world of charm classes, makeup, and fresh dresses, testing the waters of a different kind of strength. When her chance encounter with Roger at a dance leads to a stalled motorbike and a missed train, she finds herself in control, fixing the bike with quiet confidence. Art by Daniel Garcia brings the story’s subtle shift in tone to life, while José Bielsa’s cover captures the moment’s quiet tension.

Jo had worked in her dad's garage since she left school. But she observes that helpless females seem to come off best in the long run so she decides to undertake a transition by attending charm classes, wearing makeup and buying new dresses. She meets Roger at a dance. He offers to give her a lift to the station on his way home, but his motorbike breaks down. Worried that she will miss her train, Jo takes charge of the situation and fixes his bike for him.
