“The Baron of Skull Mesa”

In "The Baron of Skull Mesa," Roy Rogers’ world expands with the arrival of Bucky the deer, a spirited new companion rescued by Tommy and White Wind. When Baby Sue falls ill with the croup and the ice proves too thin for Dennis on horseback, Tommy rides Bucky—guided by White Wind’s swift lead—to fetch medicine, proving that even the most unlikely allies can make all the difference. Written by Gaylord Du Bois and illustrated by Morris Gollub, with a dynamic cover by Ramon Freulich, this 1948 Dell classic blends frontier grit with heartwarming teamwork.

Bucky the deer joins the cast. Rescued by Tommy and White Wind, Tommy teaches Bucky to let him ride him. When Baby Sue got the croup, and the thin ice over the creek wouldn't hold Dennis in his horse, Tommy rode Bucky, with White Wind alongside, to the doc's. Getting two bottles of medicine, Tommy tied one to White Wind, so the swift wolfhound could get home fastest. Tommy and Bucky arrived next, and the medicine saved the baby.
