“Ruins Book One: Men on Fire”

"Ruins Book One: Men on Fire" delivers a haunting, character-driven journey through a fractured world, as writer Warren Ellis and artists Cliff Nielsen, Terese Nielsen, and Chris Moeller paint a stark portrait of loss and legacy. Phil, a researcher documenting the universe’s decline, encounters a mutant prison under the Kingpin’s control, witnesses the fiery end of stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze, and speaks with Ben Grimm, haunted by a shuttle mission he couldn’t bring himself to fly. The story’s emotional weight is matched by its striking visuals—each page layered with moody color and precise inking—culminating in a quiet, devastating end as Phil’s own past catches up to him. Cover by Cliff Nielsen and Terese Nielsen.

Phil continues to research his book on how the universe that should be full of marvels has instead fallen into ruins. He visits a mutant prison run by the Kingpin for President X, he watches stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze go down in flames and he interviews Ben Grimm who lost his closest friends in a space shuttle flight which he refused to pilot. As Phil worries about how much time he has left to write his book, the radiation he absorbed from news photographer Peter Parker kills him.
