Sad Sack Comics #50

Harvey Comics' beloved everyman takes another beating in this September 1955 installment, with the cover — signed by George Baker — capturing poor Sad Sack getting sandwiched between two burly figures in yellow, a resounding "CRACK!" punctuating his misery as shards fly in every direction. It's the kind of slapstick suffering that made this series so endearing, and the tagline "Loved by Millions" is hard to argue with when the gags are this sharply drawn. A charming snapshot of mid-1950s humor comics at their most gleefully punishing.
