“The Face, Act One”

In "The Face, Act One," Jimmy Shan finds himself caught between loyalty to his Lei Feng tong and the chilling reality of a killer targeting rival members—each victim beheaded with eerie precision. As the Sandman, ever watchful, urges Jimmy to stop the escalating violence, the true horror unfolds in silence: a man in a mask returns to his apartment, peeling away his disguise to whisper to his own reflection. Written by Matt Wagner and illustrated with stark precision by John Watkiss, with colors by David Hornung and letters by John Costanza, this issue builds tension through quiet dread. The cover, by Gavin Wilson, captures the unsettling stillness of a face revealed.

Jimmy Shan tries to convince his Lei Feng tong that recent beheadings are not the acts of Huo Yibai tong but he is ignored and the group decides to continue their war. After another beheading, the Sandman tells Jimmy to again try to get his tong to stand down as he is on the trail of the killer. After his latest kill, The Face returns to his apartment, removes his disguise, and babbles to himself in the mirror.
