First appearance of the Cult of the Jackal, including its leader Anubia (a jackal-evolved New Man), along with cult members Caiman, Harrier, and Piranis — all debuting solely in this issue.
First appearance of the third incarnation of the Ani-Men (also spelled Animen) — a High Evolutionary strike team of New Men consisting of Buzzard (hawk), Crushtacean (crab), Flying Fox (bat), Komodo (lizard), and Spinneret (spider).
The issue reveals that Miles Warren (the Jackal) was formerly an assistant to the High Evolutionary at Mount Wundagore, a retroactive connection that recontextualizes Warren's expertise in genetics and his creation of the Jackal persona.
The High Evolutionary admits on-panel that he fabricated the story that the Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy clones were not true clones but rather individuals altered by a DNA virus — re-confirming Ben Reilly's status as a legitimate genetic clone of Peter Parker.
