“Volcano!”

"Volcano!" kicks off in *Secrets of the Unknown* #151 with a tale of political intrigue and unexpected transformation, where a reluctant suitor is forced into a marriage of convenience to prevent war—only to find the bride unimpressive. When courtly efforts to beautify her fail, it's the sorcerer's apprentice who finally succeeds, though his magic brings consequences neither expected. Paul Reinman handles both pencils and inks for the interior art, while Bill Everett delivers the striking cover.

In order to avoid a costly war, a marriage is suggested between two rival factions, but the man finds the girl homely and is not interested. Many of the king's court ply their skills at making her beautiful but none succeed until the sorcerer's apprentice is given leave to try his magic. The war still occurs, however, as the girl marries the apprentice.
