An unnamed bride recounts how she nearly married the wrong man—a scoundrel named Danny—before her father intervened by giving her a deed to a house and encouraging her to leave town. After Danny abandons her for a golf caddy, she visits a supposedly haunted place with a man named Steve, where they encounter what appears to be ghostly activity but turns out to be Steve's relatives playing pranks to scare her away. Steve convinces her to stay, and the story ends with them together. In a second story, a woman named Mona argues with her husband Charles over household expenses; after he leaves her and she obtains the deed to their house from her lawyer, she resolves to be miserable in the house regardless of her circumstances rather than abandon it.
