Sir Edward Grey, Witchfinder: In the Service of Angels #3
In "In the Service of Angels [Chapter 3]," Sir Edward Grey faces a creature in Mary’s parlor, then grapples with the implications of its origin as Mary and Grey discuss its methods. When August Swain of the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra seeks to claim the creature’s bones, Grey refuses—only to be drawn deeper into a mystery tied to the survivors of Hyperborea, who, as Rev. Blum reveals, fled to a hellish inner world and gave rise to the very beings they now hunt. Written by Mike Mignola and illustrated by Ben Stenbeck, with colors by Dave Stewart and letters by Clem Robins, the cover by Mike Mignola captures the story’s grim, otherworldly tone.

The creature is battled in Mary's parlor, after which she and Sir Edward confer over its methods. Grey is approached by and rebuffs August Swain, representing The Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra; the mysterious cabal wishes to acquire the creature's bones. Mary then leads Edward and The Captain to a church, where Rev. Blum tells of how the survivors of Hyperborea, the first people, fled to the hellish inner world and created the very kind of creature who stalks them.
