Stane International was able to obtain the pieces of Red Ronin from S.H.I.E.L.D (after it was destroyed by the Avengers) and hired Japanese scientist Karaguchi Inoyawa to rebuild it. The partially rebuilt robot is displayed at a trade show at the Pontiac Silverdome. A disgruntled ex-employee named Joe Kilman (who reprogrammed the robot) gains access to the programming and activates Red Ronin causing it to go on a rampage. The Wasp enters the legless robot and, after making past its internal defense systems, is able to deactivate it.
