In "Troisième génèse," the Generation X team adjusts to life at Xavier’s, training for their future as mutant heroes. When Banshee, Jubilee, and Synch go to the airport to meet their new recruit, Jonothon Starsmore, they’re ambushed by the mutant vampire Emplate—only for Gateway to teleport in and drive the attacker off. Back at the mansion with Chamber, they find a wounded mutant lying on the grounds, and as Gateway whispers the name "Penance," the team’s quiet routine shatters. Written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Chris Bachalo, with inks by Mark Buckingham and colors by Steve Buccellato and Electric Crayon, this issue’s cover by Bachalo and Buckingham captures the tension of a new threat emerging from the shadows.
