Spécial Strange #57

Jul 1988 · Editions Lug · 14,00 FRF
“Tragédie à la une !”

"Tragédie à la une !" delivers a gripping twist on fame and fortune in this 1988 Spécial Strange #57, where Longshot’s talents as a stunt performer take center stage—only to be tested by a cruel betrayal. Written by Ann Nocenti and brought to life with dynamic art by Arthur Adams, the issue features inks by Whilce Portacio and Scott Williams, and vibrant colors by Christie Scheele, with Adams also handling the striking cover pencils and inks. As Longshot’s luck begins to fail and a mysterious transformation unfolds in Magog, the line between performance and peril blurs in a story that’s as sharp as it is suspenseful.

A director is impressed with Longshot's physical acrobatics and offers him a job as a stunt man. Longshot befriends Ricochet Rita, and the pair dazzle the cameras. Longshot is attacked by hunters from his homeworld and is rescued by Magog who is beginning to grow and transform into a more demonic-looking creature. During filming, Longshot's luck powers desert him as the making of money is not considered a worthy goal and he is cut down by lasers. The director claims that he is going to rush Longshot to the hospital but ends up dumping him in a river and leaving him to die.
